Act Together Ministries provides trained and screened Christian mentors to work one on one with foster children and children from single parent homes in the north Atlanta area. “Youth who meet regularly with their mentors are 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking” (Public/Private Ventures study of Big Brothers Big Sisters). “In terms of educational achievement, mentored youth have better attendance; a better chance of going on to higher education; and better attitudes toward school.” (A Research Brief published by Child Trends) Who are the mentors? Christians from a local church Screened, trained and interviewed by Act Together Ministries. At least 16 years of age. Most mentors are adults, but some mature teenagers serve as “big brothers” or “big sisters.” Matched with a child based on interests and location.
